Guidance and Support for Developing Educational Plans
As experienced parents as well as educational professionals, we know how important it is to work harmoniously with school personnel to develop educational plans that achieve desired results.
Guidance for the Educational Planning Process
One of our principal services, therefore, is guiding parents through the process of developing individual educational plans (IEPs). We also assist in reviewing IEPs each year. We will visit a child’s classroom and observe so that we can speak knowledgeably about the child’s program and help develop IEP goals and objectives for the coming school year.
We are also skilled in helping to develop and assess written educational plans (WEPs) for chldren identified as gifted as well as 504 plans for students needing accommodations.
Focusing on Strengths and Needs
We are sensitive to the complex needs of the each student when developing plans and have learned the importance of working closely with school staff members to identify solutions that successfully accommodate special needs. In addition, we believe that educational planning should emphasize the “whole child.” Therefore, we often lead discussions that focus specifically on the student’s unique gifts, abilities and interests. This allows the educational team to include goals and activities that address the child’s strengths.
Support at Team Meetings
Our service to parents includes being available to attend IEP, 504, and team meetings at school. We assist parents in preparing for the meeting by generating questions and requests. At the meeting we take notes, ensure parents’ questions are answered and collaborate with the school team to create a comprehensive plan. Often, the most important time we spend with parents is the “meeting after the meeting,” which allows parents to process the information and formulate the next steps.
If you feel these services can help you in evaluating the effectiveness of your child’s IEP, WEP, or 504 plan, please contact us today. |
